One light device.
For horse and dog.
The B4A PBM combines red light (660 nm) and near-infrared (810 nm) in a handy battery-powered device — as a wellness application for horses and dogs. Engineered in Austria.
How photobiomodulation works at the cellular level
This is how research describes the mechanism: red light (660 nm) and near-infrared (810 nm) penetrate the tissue and reach the mitochondria — the "powerhouses" of the cell. This is where photobiomodulation (PBM) takes effect.
The mitochondrial hub: cytochrome c oxidase
Red and near-infrared light is absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase (Complex IV) in the inner mitochondrial membrane. This enzyme is the key of the respiratory chain — it catalyses the final stage of the electron transport chain, where oxygen is used to generate energy. It is considered the central light acceptor (chromophore) of PBM.
1 · More ATP — more cellular energy
Activating cytochrome c oxidase strengthens the proton gradient across the mitochondrial membrane. Research associates this with an increased ATP production — more available energy that can support the cell's natural processes.
2 · Less mitochondrial stress
At the same time, a lower formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS / free radicals) is described — which can reduce oxidative stress at the cellular level and support cell regulation.
3 · Cellular signalling pathways
The rise in ATP and the modulation of ROS are considered triggers of cellular signalling cascades associated with cell survival, balanced regulation processes and the body's own regeneration — processes that can support wellbeing.
Not only local — the systemic perspective
Current research describes that PBM doesn't act only on the irradiated tissue: a local application can reach more distant regions via circulating factors released from the irradiated cells — an approach that can support microcirculation broadly.
Why in horses & dogs?
Muscle, tendon and cartilage cells have a high mitochondrial density — exactly the target structure of PBM. Red light reaches surface-near structures (approx. 5–10 mm), near-infrared medium depths (up to approx. 20–30 mm) — suitable for skin, coat, muscles, tendons and joints.
| Level | Effect described in PBM research |
|---|---|
| Mitochondrial | ATP ↑ · ROS ↓ |
| Cellular | cell regulation & cell survival supported |
| Tissue | circulation ↑ · regeneration ↑ |
| Systemic | circulating, regulating factors |
The right approach instead of raw power
Infrared-focused: more 810 nm
8 of the 14 LEDs are near-infrared. NIR physically has a greater penetration depth than red light — the B4A PBM deliberately focuses more on depth than many comparable devices.
Selectable 10 Hz pulse
Continuous light or pulsed at 10 Hz. Pulsed photobiomodulation is an active research field; the choice is yours. In pulse mode, the application time roughly doubles.
One button. Deliberately simple.
No display, no app: Press — red + infrared on. Hold 3 seconds — 10 Hz pulse. Press again — off. One-hand operation, even with gloves.
LED — not laser
14 high-power LEDs, red and infrared combined. Photobiologically tested to EN 62471, Risk Group 1 — no safety goggles required; do not look directly into the light source.
Where the B4A PBM can support your horse & dog
Light wellness as a fixed part of the daily routine — wherever you want to actively support your horse's or dog's recovery and wellbeing.
Muscles & tension
Can accompany the relaxation of strained muscles — e.g. after training, work or longer rest periods.
Tendons & joints
Can be used supportively around heavily loaded regions such as tendons and joints — as part of the recovery routine.
Regeneration after exertion
Can accompany the active recovery phase after sport, training and intense movement.
Skin & coat
Can be used supportively in the care routine around skin and coat.
Seniors & very active
Can support the wellbeing of older or heavily worked horses and dogs in daily life.
Relaxation & wellbeing
The gentle application can contribute to your horse's or dog's general relaxation and wellbeing.
The B4A PBM in everyday use
Real use on horses and dogs — in the stable, outdoors and relaxed at home.
Solidly built. Thought through to the last detail.
A robust handheld device in an aluminium housing — Engineered in Austria, with the declared goal of also manufacturing in Austria in the future. A manual for use on horses and dogs is included.
Aluminium housing — for stable & sports bag
Solid aluminium housing instead of a plastic shell: robust against knocks, premium in the hand, durable in daily use — wherever you are.
Replaceable battery – not permanently sealed
If capacity fades after years, the battery is replaced instead of the whole device – good for your wallet and the environment.

Frequently asked questions about the B4A PBM
What is the B4A PBM?
A handy battery-powered device for light wellness in horses and dogs. It combines red light (660 nm) and near-infrared (810 nm) — for horse and dog. A wellness product, not a medical device.
Which animals is the B4A PBM suitable for?
For horses and dogs. The included manual describes use on horses and dogs. It is a wellness product and not a medical device.
Does my animal need safety goggles?
No. The B4A PBM is photobiologically tested to EN 62471 and classified in Risk Group 1 (low risk) — safety goggles are not required. As with any bright light source: do not look directly and deliberately into the LEDs.
What does photobiomodulation (PBM) mean?
PBM describes how light of certain wavelengths is absorbed by cells and triggers biological processes there — above all in the mitochondria, the "powerhouses" of the cell. Red and infrared light are considered the relevant wavelengths for this.
Why 660 nm and 810 nm together?
660 nm acts more on the surface (skin & coat), 810 nm penetrates deeper and reaches muscles, tendons and joints. The B4A PBM always emits both wavelengths together, covering surface and depth.
What can I use it for?
As part of your horse's or dog's daily recovery and care routine: around muscles, tendons and joints, for regeneration after exertion, on skin & coat and for general relaxation. It can provide supportive care for wellbeing — it is not a medical device and makes no healing claims.
PBM or PEMF — which first?
As a practice-proven recommendation: first PBM, then PEMF. The reason lies in the optics: red and near-infrared light penetrates best into undisturbed tissue. PEMF increases blood flow — more haemoglobin in the tissue absorbs the light and reduces penetration depth. If you use the light first, it uses the full "optical window". Afterwards, PEMF can stimulate circulation over a larger area and distribute the effects in the tissue.
In practice: 1) PBM on the target area, 2) a short pause, 3) PEMF over a larger area afterwards. For very tense or cold tissue, PEMF can also come first as a "warm-up" — both orders are fine.
Note: The combination of PBM + PEMF is an active research field without robust sequence studies. A practice-oriented recommendation, not a proven synergy.
How do I operate the device?
One button: press — red + infrared light up together. Hold for 3 seconds — 10 Hz pulse mode. Press again — off. No display, no app, operable with one hand.
Is it loud?
No. The B4A PBM works without a fan — especially with horses and dogs an advantage for acceptance.
How long does an application take?
It depends on the distance. As a rough guide: at contact a few minutes per point, and correspondingly longer at greater distances. In 10 Hz pulse mode, the time roughly doubles.
LED or laser?
14 high-power LEDs, red and infrared combined. No laser safety goggles needed; 810 nm is invisible and creates no glare reflex in the animal.
Battery and charging?
10,000 mAh battery (3.7 V / 37 Wh), charging via USB-C. The battery is not permanently sealed but replaceable. The device is screwed shut; the battery swap is handled by our service (please don't open it yourself during the warranty period). So only the battery is replaced, not the whole device.
Is this a medical device?
No. The B4A PBM is a wellness product for horses and dogs. No medical, therapeutic or healing effects are claimed.
